It is a great honor to get to represent the American public as an elected official in our Federal Government, and I think that should be compensation enough. When elected, I will oppose any further raises in pay for Congress Members, and will support legislation that seeks to reasonably limit the benefits Members currently have. I will also cosponsor and support legislation seeking to impose term limits not exceeding three US House terms and two US Senate terms via Constitutional Amendment, and impose restrictions on/the abolishment of lobbying and PACs.
Our country has a serious immigration problem. The near-constant inflow of illegal immigrants is indicative both of weak border security and glaring issues with our current legal process. When elected, I will support measures to both improve the strength of our borders and address the inefficiencies in the current immigration process.
We have too many problems at home to be putting as much effort and money as we do into other countries. To clarify, I don’t think we should hang our allies and partners out to dry, but we should put more focus on solving the issues on our homefront than we currently do. When elected, I will support any measures that seek to increase homeside efforts while limiting/reducing superfluous international aid until we are truly on our feet.
Our continued reliance on foreign oil has already bitten us a few times just in the last couple of years. This is unacceptable. We must put more focus on updating our existing power infrastructure and researching newer, cleaner, and more reliable methods of power production. When elected, I will support any measures that seek to improve our energy infrastructure and oppose any that seek to increase our foreign reliance.
It would be dishonest of me to say that I know the perfect solution but clearly our current fiscal system is not working as it should. When elected, I will work to bring us towards reducing our national debt by cutting extraneous spending and will support measures that seek to reach that goal.
Currently, bills are written in complex language that can be intentionally difficult to understand. While this is necessary for bills to have legal standing, most Americans do not speak "legal-ese" and many have a hard time deciphering the actual content of a bill. Bills also tend to lump many, often unrelated, issues together, which can stall or prevent passage of otherwise critical measures. When elected, I will support any measures that seek to simplify and streamline the law-making process, as well as those that encourage process transparency and clarity with the American Public.
